As much as we love kickstartin’ the school year with a community breakfast, we also love ending it by awarding a North Peace Secondary School graduate with our Rotary Youth Scholarship to help them further their education and reach their personal and professional goals.
This year’s recipient was Komal Kaur! Komal is headed to the University of Alberta for Biology before pursuing medical school. At NPSS, Komal was actively involved in the Rotary Interact Club, was integral to the girl’s basketball program, and made the Principal's List in this year's graduation Honour Roll.
Komal was born in India and moved to Canada at the age of 7 with her family, and says science and math invigorate her mind while sport has taught her determination, teamwork, and co-operation. She will be joining Rotoract at the U of A to continue growing as a humanitarian and community leader.
“My parents sacrificed a lot to move to Canada and provide us a chance at a better future, and that is what I am preparing to accomplish,” Komal wrote in her scholarship application. “My goal is to serve those who do not feel seen or heard, people who cannot fight for themselves.”
